These printers are fast enough that it's rare that I'm waiting on the printer. Now were back with Canon: i4600s for most event work, Pro9000s for office along with an iP710 wide carriage. Not to mention how SLOWe'd have dozens to hundreds of prints backed up in the queue waiting to print with the Epsons. Even had the 7600 dis-assembled to get to heads to clean - which worked for a short time, then back to Frustratingly so dealing with whole carts trying to clean them. We started off as a Canon shop over 12 years ago (shooting youth sports action onsite) and switched over to Epson for about a year when we were 'upgrading' printer gear. And the reason being is mostly the types of inks used.

I get the impression from the research I did two years ago, that if you want a large professional grade printer then Epson is the one but if you want an A4 printer for home and hobby then Canon is the best.įrom the little I see mentioned on the sites this seems to still be true. Larger sizes made more sense as the volume was low and the sizes varied a lot so having a wet process made no sense. While I normally send my work to Bay Photo for superb results when I need fast cheap turnaround I upload to Costco and get very good results for a vanishingly small price.īTW we did rigorous cost analysis for print costs and found that under 11x14 regular photo paper was much cheaper than inkjet per square inch. Not to hijack the thread but it would seem that your action shot business is a volume oriented one and as such highly unsuited to inkjet printing. The newer ones are much better I hear but I don't have any info on clogging. I was interested in Canon as the heads would be changed by the user (I don't know what the case is now) but their gloss differential was profound on their own paper so I just passed on it. Canon debate I ran a commercial lab for a number of years and used a variety of large format Epsons and they all suffered from clogging to some extent.
